Hello everyone,
This weekend I plan on bringing the message, “Taking Your Stand For Christ” from James 4:6-17 as we take a brief break from our study in the Book of Romans. This week we will go to the Epistle of James and take a look at what James has to tell us about the attributes of a godly life. Please read through the attached “Digging Deeper” Bible study notes before Sunday to get the most out of the message.
All Church Pot Blessing
The church will be holding an “All Church Pot Blessing” this Sunday following church outside by the church office. The church will provide the hotdogs and hamburgers; we are asking the church family to bring a side dish big enough to feed several people.
Note: A reception will also be held outside for newlyweds Isaiah and Grace Turman for those of you who would like to participate.
Connie Woolstenhulme “Celebration Of Life”
Connie’s “Celebration of Life” is scheduled for noon this Saturday at the Bastendorff Beach Campground Gazebo; the whole church family is invited to attend. Shay Spencer will be officiating Connie’s celebration and Pastor Dale will also say a few words there.
Bill Steevens “Celebration of Life”
Bill’s “Celebration of Life” is scheduled for 1:00pm this Saturday at Shoreline Community Church; I will be officiating Bill’s celebration. Once again, the church family is invited to join Susan and their children as we remember and celebrate Bill’s life.
Special Church Business Meeting
The elders have called for a “Special Church Business Meeting” on Sunday, August 23rd immediately following church. We will be asking for affirmation of the following men for the offices of elder and deacon:
Elder: Les Kaye, Roger Dunithan
Deacon: Doug Farell, Rod Rehling, Shane Dunning, and Gordon Bridgham
Venture Church Network
My age is catching up to me; I am now in my 70’s and have worked steadily for the past 53 years. As I move towards retirement in the not-too-distant future, Shoreline Community Church will seek an affirmation vote for the church to affiliate with Venture Church Network. This is not a denomination, but rather an affiliation of churches working together who are like minded, govern similarly, and believe in the same doctrine. This will offer the church avenues of support when I do retire should they need the extra help.
Change to Statement Of Faith
Under the “Doctrine of Man,” we would like to add the following to our Statement of Faith:
Life: We believe that all human life is precious in the sight of God and should be held in the highest regard by man. We believe that life itself begins at the moment of fertilization. The Bible teaches us that human beings are made in the image of God. (Gen. 1:26-27) We stand against abortion and on the side of life. As a result, we stand against the purposeful destruction of human life at its earliest stages, be it for abortion or any other human derived reason including tissues being used for research. (Luke 1:41)
Special One Time Class
Dale Cooper and Cathy Magann plan to offer a class on “How To Avoid Online Scams” Sunday, September 13th at 12:30pm in the Passover Room. The scammers are getting pretty sophisticated and all of us are at risk these days. I hope you can join Dale and Cathy for some helpful insight.
