Good morning everyone,
Continuing on in Psalm 71, I will be looking at verses 7-9. Verse 7 says, “I have become as a wonder to many, but You are my strong refuge.”
Psalms 71:7 NKJV We, as Christians, are confusing to the world. The Gospel does not make sense, after all how could it? If something sounds too good to be true it must be right? It makes no sense that a God who dwelled in Heaven would depart His glory to come down and die for humanity. Christians are different than everyone else and stick out like a sore thumb (at least they should). You must be out of your mind! Well it is true and anything else would be too good to be true, but not the Good News of Jesus Christ. Those who are not saved do not understand. But this is not some elite club that only some people can be a part of and that by invitation. There is an invitation but it is open to all. All one needs to do is believe that they are a sinner in need of a Savior and that Jesus came down to die in order to purchase their freedom. Verse 8 says, “Let my mouth be filled with Your praise and with Your glory all the day.” Psalms 71:8 NKJV I like sugary foods and sugary drinks (oh and pizza!) but even my tongue will get tired of those flavors if I have them too much and too often. I have already grown tired of some flavors. But not so with the praises of God. I should never grow tired of singing His praises and the sweet flavor that it brings to my soul. The delight that it brings to His face is enough to keep me satisfied. I remember (a few years ago) feeling like God was smiling down on me and it felt amazing! Lastly, verse 9 gives hope for aged. The psalmist says, “Do not cast me off in the time of old age; do not forsake me when my strength fails.” Psalms 71:9 NKJV God doesn’t care how old or young you are. He is concerned with your heart. He can use a person in their old age just as effectively as one in their prime. The heart is what matters. Keep your heart looking up and dedicated to Christ the LORD!
